Lose yourself in a book

I've been teaching today (quilting not cardmaking) and feel pretty tired out, but this is a quick posting I want to do before I sit down with a large glass of wine...    I have new stamps to play with, but I haven't broken my stash diet, they were a prize for winning the challenge at The Cheerful Stamp Pad, who were sponsored by Rogue Redhead Designs.  Vicki posted my stamps last Saturday from the US and they arrived here on Thursday, which was a really nice surprise.

As an only child, I have always loved to read and to lose myself in a book, so this stamp (one of the 3) is right up my street and I made a quick card with it.  It's based on the sketch at Truly Scrumptious, I've coloured with Copics and added some cardstock embossed with script as well as some Crafty Individuals DP and a Craftwork Cards sentiment.  I love tree stamps and think this trio of scenes from Crafty Individuals is gorgeous.  I stamped it onto glossy cardstock and made a mask for each rectangle then used Distress Inks to get a winter sunset/sunrise colour.  I added some DP from Crafty Individuals, some ribbon and rhinestones and based my card on the Truly Scrumptious sketch.

OLW - use yellow

 

This week's One Layer Wednesday challenge is to use yellow.   I got out some Crafty Individuals stamps that I bought when Graphicus sadly closed down before Christmas, masked off areas of my card and got to work using brushes and Distress Ink.  I used Mustard Seed and Dried Marigold for the bird card (sentiment is Whiff of Joy) and the moonlight card is Adirondack Lemonade with some Dried Marigold added.  Once I read the wording under this stamp I saw that the yellows are much too warm to be moonlight!  That'll teach me not to stamp out first and work out the writing lol!

 

Happy Birthday Mum

 

My Mum has owned and bred Golden Retrievers most of her life.  Sadly she is without a dog for the first time in her life now as she has become less mobile.  I am always very wary of cards, whether shop or home crafted with Goldens on, as she never holds back from criticising their conformation :).   So when I saw this digi image from Image-e-nation with only the head showing, I knew I'd found the right image for Mum's birthday card!

I used the sketch from Basic Grey, both the papers are Christmas ones though it's not a Christmas card.  The main piece is from Dasher and the circle is from Eskimo Kisses.  I've turned the sketch on its side, adding a couple of punched scrolls, some Prima flowers and a Craftwork cards sentiment.    The gold cardstock has a Martha Stewart lattice border to it.

Distressed Butterflies

This is a fairly simple card that took me a long time to make. I went to my local shop, Made By You, last week and had a play with Distress Inks sponged onto the background, this is a card I came up with. I'm entering it for two butterfly challenges: the first is Danni's Flutterby Wednesday and this week Quixotic Challenges also has a butterfly theme.

The stamps are by Crafty Individuals. I stamped the butterflies onto a piece of card using Aged Mahogany and then on a larger piece in dark brown, then added lots of inks with sponges until I got a heavily antiqued effect. I also stamped a couple of framed flowers repeatedly and sponged them with slightly lighter inks, then cut out a frame. The smaller piece of card was stuck inside the frame and both were then put onto the larger piece of card, using pads for the frame. I added a cutout butterfly to the frame.
