One Layer Wednesday - two by two plus masking

This week' OneLayerWednesday Challenge is to use 2 colours of ink (Versafine Black, Adirondack Denim), two image stamps (Inkylicious tree and Santa sleigh) as well as masking.  My card is an all-out CASE of a card by Heather Telford, you can see the original here.  I'm not even going to say "inspired by", it is almost the same if not as good lol!
I masked off areas with Post-It notes and then flicked masking fluid across the middle, using an old paint brush.  Then I brayered denim ink and stamped the trees.  The sentiment is also stamped in Denim, it's Stampin' Up.

Waltzing Mouse Spring Hop meets OLW

This week's One Layer Wednesday Challenge is to use at least three stamps.  Remember tapestry stamps?  I dug out one of the sets of tiny stamps on wooden dowelling, this one is Wisteria.  We have a stunning wisteria on the front of our house that flowers in Spring, so I wanted to show this card as part of Waltzing Mouse's Spring blog party.  The sentiment is from Waltzing Mouse.  There a 4 tapestry stamps and the two words are separate, so that makes six stamps on my one layer card!  The inks were Distress Inks, Dusty Concord, Bundled Sage and some Sepia Versafine.  Here's our Spring Wisteria:

My card is for:
Waltzing Mouse Spring Blog Party
One Layer Wednesday - stamp, stamp, stamp
Cute Card Thursday - flower power

Take a walk on the wild side

One Layer Wednesday is challenging us to make a birthday card for a guy.  This Darkroom Door stamp set was bought back in November and put away as a Christmas present, it doesn't say Happy Birthday but I would be happy to give it as a guy card.  I first tried it unadorned, but it needed the rusty brown brads.  I did a lot of faffing about to make a mask for the inking and match it with the stamping, I really must learn how to use my stamp positioner!
My card is for:
One Layer Wednesday - odd birthday
Charisma Cardz - clean & simple
Crafty Pad - something for the boys
Craft a Scene - anything goes
Let's Ink it Up - anything goes

Tag, you're it!

More NEC stash, this time two stamps from Inkylicious, the cityscape and the Santa.  I will admit this needs a bit of work, the stamp is clear and not deeply etched, I've ended up with some lines across my scene while trying to get it to stamp cleanly...  Inked with Versafine Majestic Blue, second and third stampings behind one another.  Ink brushed onto the background and some Glamour Dust added for snow and around the moon.  This is a tag for One Layer Wednesday and I'm also tentatively entering it for CASual Fridays as the bow is an over-the-edge element.  But is it clean and simple with little or no white space?  Hmm I'm not sure:)

One Layer Wednesday - red and white

Susan's simply stunning OLC inspired me to play along at this week's OLW Challenge, to use only red and white or cream.  I have longed for the Stampin' Up Lovely as a Tree set ever since I saw it and finally treated myself to it; ironically it arrived a day after the gorgeous Stamp Addict trees, so it has been waiting for an airing.  As I found I didn't have a bright red ink I took the scary option of red embossing onto white cardstock, this is the second attempt:).  Sentiment is Elzybells, the shaped card shows a narrow strip of red card under its border.
My card is also entered for:
Stamp, Scrap & Doodle - monochromatic
Krafting Kimmie - monochromatic
Crafty Ann's - clean & simple
Prairie Fairy - wet embossing
Floweret - Christmas again
Winter Wonderland - clean & simple Christmas card
Simon Says - anything goes

OLW - cats & dogs

I got around to making a card for One Layer Wednesday just in the nick of time!  This is another of those adorable Little Claire stamps, the ones I broke my stash diet for:).  It is very simply coloured in with Copics, the background is YR0000.  The shaped card is from Craftwork Cards.  I'll probably add an insert to my card, for once, as the Copics have bled through the front of my single layer, it's a birthday card for someone at DH's office.
I'm entering my card for the following challenges:
One Layer Wednesday - cats & dogs
Crazy Challenge - pets
Little Claire - shaped cards - I hope this card fits the challenge, it does have some shape rather than just square:)

One Layer Wednesday - and a stash diet

I hope I've just crept in under the wire with my card for One Layer Wednesday, using the sketch.  I've been stalking this set of discontinued Stampin' Up stamps for some time now on Ebay and managed to get hold of them last month.  They finally arrived yesterday, unfortunately with the sting in the tail of customs charges due to the postage being added to the value of the stamps.  Oh well, you win some, you lose some and I am delighted to have this set at last.  The sentiment is from a Joanna Sheen House Mouse set.  Sentiment and image are stamped in Memento London Fog, the background has Distress Inks brushed on and the image is coloured with Copics.  Usually my OLW cards involve silhouettes not colouring, I'm quite pleased with this one.

I've been lucky enough to get some lovely goodies for Christmas and for my birthday.  I've had a few more things come in the post that I've ordered and decided that February is to be the month of no new stash - well almost!  We have a weekend away near the end of the month that is close to two big craft shops and I'm sure my resoloution doesn't count when I'm away from home :-).  So today is the first day of my stash diet...

OLW - use yellow

This week's One Layer Wednesday challenge is to use yellow.   I got out some Crafty Individuals stamps that I bought when Graphicus sadly closed down before Christmas, masked off areas of my card and got to work using brushes and Distress Ink.  I used Mustard Seed and Dried Marigold for the bird card (sentiment is Whiff of Joy) and the moonlight card is Adirondack Lemonade with some Dried Marigold added.  Once I read the wording under this stamp I saw that the yellows are much too warm to be moonlight!  That'll teach me not to stamp out first and work out the writing lol!

Phindy's Place Challenge #37 - Distressing

Welcome to Friday and welcome to this week's Phindy's Place Challenge.  Last week was the first time we opened up the challenge to all-comers and boy did we get a response - nearly 150 entries!  This week the challenge is Distressing.  You can use Distress Inks, distress paper edges, tear paper, interpret it your way, I can't wait to see your entries!   I used one of my all-time favourite images, Spring Breeze, a useful one for Mother's Day, new baby, all sorts of occasions really.
I've coloured with Copics and edged with Dusty Concord Distress Ink.  The DP is Basic Grey Wisteria and I've distressed the edges, then inked them.  There is stitching around 2 of the papers.  I used my new Martha Stewart punch that DH bought me for Christmas to mat the image.  There are tiny Papermania buttons on the corners of the image and eyelets in the plain card, which is also inked.  The flowers are made from a Little Claire die and the leaves are punched.  I added a nice big bow and decided that there was so much going on that the sentiment can go inside the card!  One more thing that you probably can't see is that the card has the fold at the LH side.  I noticed that quite a few of the landscape layout commercial Christmas cards that we received had the fold to the left, not at the top, and they stayed upright much better.  So I cut this from A3 cardstock.

I'm entering the following challenges with my card:
Polka Doodles - sketch and self coloured image
Digi Doodle Shop - buttons
Dutch Dare - new beginnings
Moving Along with the Times - old stash, new stash (new MS punch, old DP, eyelets, buttons)
Stamp Insanity - use metal (eyelets)
Stampin B's - something old, something new
Simon Says - new beginnings (new baby, Spring)
Secret Crafter - buttons & bows
Creative Card Crew - new beginnings
Paper Crafting Journal - lets get digital
Crafting Your Passion - anything goes
Corrosive Challenges - purple & yellow
Crafty Ho's - babies
Ellephantastic - new beginnings
One Stop Craft - new beginnings
Do It With Digis - new beginnings

A Neglected Stamp for One Layer Wednesday

Here's a quick card that took a lot of agonizing before I put ink to card!  One Layer Wednesday this week is really paring it down:  One image stamp and a maximum of two ink colours.  I inked a rectangle masked off with Post Its, using Worn Lipstick Distrss Ink.  The seed head is an Artemio clear stamp that I bought becuase I loved the set and it was very good value.  Shamefully this is the first time I've inked any of them!

Confession:  now I've photographed it I expect I'll add in another stamp and put a sentiment on it before I send it.  Sorry OLW!

O Christmas Tree

This week One Layer Wednesday have a Back to the Beginning theme - what first got you into cardmaking?  For me the very first inspiration and stamps came from watching the talented Tracey Dutton of Lavinia Designs, brayering and using silhouettes to make a landscape.  Reader I fell in love!  I came away with tree stamps, more trees, a mare and foal and Adirondack ink pads.  She had no matting, layering, embellies, just beautiful scenes.  Nearly 3 years down the line I'm still not happy with my brayering but I have found the wonderful Inkylicious duster brushes which give me the effect I love.

So...  I brushed a blue/green background onto my card, masking off a margin.  I stamped Tim Holtz trees in Versafine Olympia Green, stamping off onto scrap for the distant trees.  Greeting is from Papermania.  It needed a bit more and I gave the trees some Stickles decorations.  Hooray, DH has asked for a dozen of these for his work cards!

I am entering the following challenges with my card:
One Layer Wednesday - back to the beginning
Totally Gorjuss - O Christmas tree
The Stamp Man - anything by Tim

One Layer Wednesday

My blogging friend Chrissie has introduced me to One Layer Wednesday via her blog and I have entered their challenge this week for the first time.  The challenge is to take inspiration from a page of cards designed by Walther Erhard and my starting point was the ornament card to the left.  I bought some cheap-as-chips but very good Viva Christmas stamps from Stamp Attic, my local shop a couple of weeks back and I gave them an outing for the challenge.  I embossed using 4 different powders and managed to keep the textured card pretty clear of irritating embossed specks:).
That led on to a second one-layer card not related to the first.  Same Viva holly flourish, but this time I've brushed Distress Inks onto a centre strip after clear embossing a large Viva text stamp.  I planned to gold emboss the text but decided I like it best as it is.

My cards are for the following challenges:
Ornament Branch:
One Layer Wednesday - inspiration
Paper Pretties - clean & simple

Distressed Text:
Paper Sundaes - adorn those corners!
I Did It - surprise me
Crazy 4 Challenges - script paper or folder (hope the stamped text counts!)
